Curriculum

Our curriculum is The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool. www.teachingstrategies.com

This curriculum is aligned with the Rhode Island Early Learning & Development Standards issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education: https://www.ride.ri.gov/Portals/0/Uploads/Documents/Instruction-and-Assessment-World-Class-Standards/Early-Childhood/ELDS/2013_Early_Learning_and_Development_Standards.pdf

Daily Schedule

Arrival, preparation, and choice activities                            8:30 – 9:00 a.m.

Respond to the question of the day.  Select an activity (e.g., toys and games, drawing, continuing to work on a project, looking at books, listening to recorded stories).

Group meeting                                                                              9:00 – 9:20 a.m.

Welcome song, discuss attendance and job charts; invite children to share news; discuss the “question of the day”; record children’s ideas, song or finger play; activity or discussion related to a study topic; discuss plans for the day; and introduce any new materials added to interest areas.

Choice Time                                                                                    9:20 – 10:20 a.m.

Children select which interest areas they wish to start in and what they want to do.  Children engaged in study activities.  Spontaneous small groups and reading to children.

Clean-up, handwashing, and snack                                         10:20 – 10:40 a.m.

Teachers sit with children and discuss what took place during choice time.

Small Groups                                                                                  10:40 – 11:00 a.m.

Children work in small groups and introduced to new concepts and reinforce skills they are developing.  Children not working in small groups may select a quiet activity (e.g., toys and games, drawing, continuing working on a project, looking at books, or listening to recordings.

Read-aloud                                                                                      11:00 – 11:15 a.m.

Music and movement                                                                  11:15 – 11:25 a.m.

Outdoor Choice Time                                                                   11:25 – 12:00 p.m.

Departures                                                                                      12:00 p.m.

Lunch                                                                                                 12:00 – 12:30 p.m.

Help children prepare the tables for lunch.  Teachers eat with the children to encourage conversations about the days events, the meal, other topics that interest them.  Children help to clean up after lunch.

Quiet Activities/Rest if needed                                                12:40 – 1:25 p.m.

Outdoor Choice Time                                                                   1:25 – 1:55 p.m.

Read-aloud                                                                                      1:55 – 2:10 p.m.

Limited Choice time, snack, small groups                             2:10 – 2:40 p.m.

Children help themselves to a self service snack as they get up and transition to an activity, select an interest area, or participate in a small group activity.  Children are given a 5 minute warning and clean up.

Group meeting and departures                                    2:40 – 3:00 p.m.

Movement activity, finger play or musical instruments.  Response to question of the day.  Children talk about the day, including what they are going to remember about it.  Talk about plans for the next day.

 Extended Time                                                                               3:00 – 3:30 p.m.

In addition, we hold annual events such as a Fall field trip to Farmer’s Daughter, Animal Control Officer Pet Study, Walks to the fire station and police station, dental health visitor, guest readers, Thanksgiving breakfast and Christmas pageant.

Sundays

  • 8 am Holy Eucharist

  • 10:15 am Holy Eucharist .

  • services are podcasted most weeks on Mondays.

  • Weekdays

  • Morning Prayer is offered Tues., Wed, and Thurs. at 8:45. Please enter through the office entrance.

  • Zoom Bible Studies are Wednesdays at noon and

  • Community Market is held on most Fridays from 3-5 pm in the Parish Hall.
