Habitat for Humanity Bowl-a-Thon
On May 20, Old Mountain Lanes was once again the scene of the annual South County Habitat for Humanity Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser. 83 bowlers filled 21 lanes for a fun night and some healthy competition. Many familiar faces returned from last year and are already looking forward to next year. American Power Conversion (APC) sent six teams this year, and APC’s Kyle Russell bowled a combined three-game score of 637 to earn a prize of four movie tickets.
Ellen Jacke of Christ United Methodist (North Kingstown) earned dinner and four movie tickets for turning in $401 in pledges with another $100 to collect. Ellen was the number one individual fundraiser. St. Peter's fielded one complete (four-person) team, something we hope to build on next year.
A total of $6,149 was turned in at registration, though more money may come in later (a corporate matching grant from APC). This money will successfully pay off the balance owed from Faithbuild 2, a faith-community joint venture that helped to build a house in Charlestown in 2008 (St. Peter's has long been a supporting "partner church" with South County Habitat, and supported Faithbuld 2). Faithbuild 3 may be lurking around the corner...!
