Celebration = Worship
On Sunday (June 13) at 5 o’clock, cloudy, rain or shine, we’re going to have a great celebration down at Veteran’s Memorial Park, along with friends from other Episcopal churches in South County. We’ll celebrate over 140 years of ministry in the name of Jesus Christ in southern Rhode Island. We’ll celebrate the wonderful ways God has blessed us: love, health, family, a beautiful coastline, a wonderful church filled with fellow disciples, four brand new Christians, and whatever else you want to celebrate.
It’s going to be quite a party. To help us do the celebrating, we’ve hired the talents of a 9-piece steel pan drum band, Pan Xpressions, who will energize us with their calypso rhythms. Brickley’s has donated ice cream, Dell’s is bringing the lemonade cart, and Dave’s Market donated a bunch of watermelons. It’s not often you get to party like this at church, so we’ve pulled out all the stops.
But even though we’ll be doing some pretty unusual things, at the center of the celebration will be the most usual of our actions as a church: worship. We will sing praises, give glory and thanks, and ask for God’s blessing. We will worship. And frankly, that’s the point. Everything we will do together is intended to help us give glory to the Almighty who loves us, saved us, and calls us his own.
So come and party with us “by the sea.” Come and listen to some great music, eat some delicious treats, and have a fabulous time. But most importantly, come and help us celebrate our great God.
